Since 1 July 2008, the e-Safety Check has replaced the traditional paper-based inspection scheme. The e-safety check replaces the traditional pink slip roadworthy check and is carried out to determine the road worthiness of a vehicle.

All Authorised Inspection Stations now transmit the inspection report to the RMS electronically. It is a compulsory vehicle safety check required in New South Wales annually to obtain or renew vehicle registration. The e-safety check is valid for 42 days and can be used to pay your vehicle registration online rather than having to wait in line at an RTA branch.
